Celebration opened its doors back in 1971, and since then, it’s become a neighborhood institution for fried chicken and family-style dining.

District 13 plan commissioner Robert Ekblad has lived in our neighborhood since the 1940s and he tells me that when Celebration first opened, “it had that whole hippie thing going on,” meaning you could always find “people wearing those suede fringe vests and bellbottoms” there. Looks like quite a bit has changed in three decades–thankfully, just not the food.

The restaurant is celebrating its 38th anniversary today with a one-time special: Meatloaf and roasted rosemary chicken with two sides for only $5.95. They’ll also have special anniversary hours today with lunch from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and dinner from 5 to 9:30 p.m.
