The walls may be lined with professional boxing memorabilia, but Southpaws attracts more than just athletes. “People are actually starting to care what goes into their bodies,” says owner Reza Anvarian, a retired boxer and Golden Glove winner. The organic smoothie bar has become a neighborhood hot spot for moms, kids and anyone who’s looking for something refreshing without all the additives. In fact, Southpaws replaces all sugar with agave nectar. “There’s nothing unhealthy in here,” Anvarian says. And there’s plenty of wholesome food on the menu, too, like the Green Gobbler spinach wrap and the gluten-free Zaza rice bowl packed with fresh veggies. “It’s good, clean food.” Everything’s made in an open kitchen in a bar-like setup, so things get pretty social. “It’s a health-food ‘Cheers’. Everybody knows everybody.”
