Lowe’s Charitable and Educational Foundation awarded E.D. Walker Middle School with a $5,000 grant to help fund the Walker Educational Environmental Design garden (WEED). The new hands-on, outdoor classroom will provide students and teachers with a “living laboratory” and community garden in front of the school.

Walker is among 450 other schools and parent organizations to receive the Toolbox for Education grant from Lowe’s, which recognizes parent-initiated school improvement projects around the U.S.

The WEED is scheduled to be completed in 2012.

Since it began five years ago, the Toolbox for Education program has awarded $20 million in grants.
