Father’s Day is approaching quickly (it’s this Sunday, in case you forgot), and the heat is on to find Dad the ultimate gift. Let’s face it, shopping for pop can be a chore. The pool of potential presents is small (Cologne or tie? Book or grilling tools?), and the likelihood of blowing Dad away with the chosen gift is grim. Instead of giving him the same old-same old this year, why not take Dad out to brunch or dinner. Not only will he appreciate being treated to a delectable meal, he will also enjoy spending quality time with the fam, and, unlike a tie or a bottle of cologne, the memory is a gift that will last forever (cheesy, but it’s true). Try these restaurants for Father’s Day specials.

  • Rathbun’s Blue Plate Kitchen, featured in our June issue for its fried green tomatoes, is serving a brunch special from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. that features a special three-course menu. Choose one item from the menu for each of the three courses for $35 per person plus tax.
  • Also featured in our June issue for its “posh patio,” Rise No. 1 is making an exception this Father’s Day. The restaurant, which specializes in French cuisine, usually only takes reservations for parties of five or more, but this Father’s Day, it is accepting reservations for parties of all sizes.
  • Blue Mesa Grill is hosting a Father’s Day buffet 8 a.m.-4 p.m. that will include a huge sample of the menu – eggs Benedict, Belgian waffles, huevos rancheros, migas, salads and grilled fish, to name a few. The price, which includes champagne and mimosas, is $17.95 per person, $6.95 for kids ages 6-10 and free for children 5 and under. The restaurant is taking limited early reservations, so don’t wait to make yours.
  • McCormick & Schmick’s Seafood in NorthPark is serving a mixed grill for dinner, featuring filet medallion, grilled salmon, crab cake and chocolate crème brûlée for $29.95.
  • Celebration Market is featuring two specials on the menu this Father’s Day: Redfish with tomatillo/avocado sauce for $17.95 and local grass-fed chopped steak for $12.95.
  • Take Dad to Asian Mint, which specializes in Bangkok style dishes, for a complimentary Sakejito this Sunday.
