The Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas recently recognized its prestigious Gold Award winners – the girls who completed the highest accomplishment in Girl Scouts having completed all the requirements through the end. Just as Boy Scouts become Eagle Scouts. Learn more about Girl Scouts awards and what scouts must do to eanr them.

Below is a rundown of the girls in our neighborhoods who completed great projects and achieved the honor:

Alexandra Adamek, with the support of Interfaith Housing Coalition, gathered donations to help homeless individuals in the Dallas area through her project, Lending a Hand: One Apartment at a Time. She is a member of Girl Scout Troop 2674, a senior at Ursuline Academy and the daughter of Carol and Keith Adamek.

Katherine Banks assembled 165 fun activity bags for children at Parkland Hospital. She is a member of Girl Scout Troop 652, a senior at Ursuline Academy and the daughter of Drs. Kathleen and Benny Banks.

Mary Hauder planned an end of the year party, as well as a donation drive for the children of Gilda’s Club, a support center for families stricken by cancer. She is a member of Girl Scout Troop 224, a 2011 graduate of Bishop Lynch High School and the daughter of Bernie and Sharis Hauder.

Hayley Hoyle held a book drive where she collected 1,000 books for the children of the Dallas Children’s Advocacy Center, a nonprofit that works with child abuse victims in Dallas County. She is a member of Girl Scout Troop 3117, a senior at Ursuline Academy and the daughter of Laura and Michael Slaney.

Kaitlyn Hunter gave teenage patients at Texas Scottish Rite Hospital a creative outlet by providing them with paint and rhinestones to decorate their slings. She is a member of Girl Scout Troop 1839, a 2011 graduate of John Paul II High School and the daughter of Karen and Cary Hunter.

Julia Hussey educated high school students on what federal and local law enforcement agencies do for our communities by creating a DVD presentation that was at R.L. Turner High School. She is a member of Girl Scout Troop 1948, a 2011 graduate of Episcopal School of Dallas and the daughter of Vonda Hussey.

Kelsey Hyman created awareness in her community about Type 1 Diabetes by speaking at a Diabetes 101 , as well as by making an informational DVD. She is a member of Girl Scout Troop 224, a 2011 graduate of Ursuline Academy and the daughter of Laura and Eric Hyman.

Blair Johnson promoted a safe-driving pledge to encourage her community not to engage in distracted driving behavior like texting while driving.  Her project even caught the attention of Texas legislators. She is a member of Girl Scout Troop 593, a senior at The Hockaday School and the daughter of Lyndon and Debra Johnson.

Ashley Levy worked with Jewish World Watch for Women to raise oney and donate over 70 solar cookers,  to women and children in Sudan.n. She is a member of Girl Scout Troop 1706, a 2011 graduate of the Greenhill School and the daughter of Randall and Irene Levy.

Mary Moore hosted an educational spring break camp for the children of The Family Place with the theme of “A Week through Time,” which extended from Jurassic Time to Futuristic Outer Space. She is a member of Girl Scout Troop 1900, a senior at J.J. Pearce High School and the daughter of Sammie and Harry Moore.

Caroline Olvera worked with another Girl Scout to start a working library at Peak Preparatory School. They also created a space that could be utilized by students and faculty. She is a member of Girl Scout Troop 1941, a senior at Ursuline Academy and the daughter of Jim and Vicki Olvera.

Marisa Salatino researched Chinese gardens in order to build a park that reminded the residents of Sunray Community Center, where many Chinese immigrants live, of home. She is a member of Girl Scout Troop 9131, a sophomore at The Hockaday School and the daughter of Kerry and Joe Salatino.

Lily Simon volunteered to help out troubled children at the Genesis Women’s Shelter cope with emotional issues by providing them with art sessions. She is a member of Girl Scout Troop 1108, a 2011 graduate of The Hockaday School and the daughter of Marilou and Jim Simon.

Frances Walls collected tube socks for toddlers with broken arms at Scottish Rite Hospital towear since slings can be a choking hazard to young children. She is a member of Girl Scout Troop 2962, a 2011 graduate of Ursuline Academy and the daughter of Cynthia and John Walls.

Wendy Watson worked with the   staff at The Healing Hands Ministries in Dallas toclean and repaint over 20 doors, door jams, and windows in the office. She is a Girl Scout Juliette, a senior at Highland Park High School and the daughter of Carol Watson.
