Beneath the urban hustle and bustle, our neighborhood harbors some pretty impressive gardens that can brings us closer to the natural world.

The Open Days Garden Tour features several Preston Hollow oases 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday. Click here for the full list with directions.

The Merritt/Kleinmann residence near Hillcrest Forest has a garden designed with the architecture of the home in mind. It’s a 1958 modernist house designed by Texas architect O’Neil Ford.

The Middleton Farm near the Episcopal School of Dallas has three gardens – a casual one, a rampant one and “business” one for vegetables and herbs.

Paul and Kay Passmore, also in Hillcrest Forest, boast a half-acre property that blooms with native and water-wise plants that attract butterflies this time of year.

Open Days is a national program by the Garden Conservatory. Tours happen in cities across the country.
