Barnes & Noble at Lincoln Park hosts a book signing at 7 p.m. Friday with Brad Thor, the best-selling author of “Black List.” His latest thriller is about a secret list, known only to the President of the United States and his close advisers. Somehow, a counter-terrorism operative ends up on the list and must evade government capture while also trying to save the country from an eminent attack.

Uncle Calvin’s Coffeehouse features two singer/songwriters, Claude “Butch” Morgan and J. Wagner, who will perform original songs Friday night. Doors open at 7:30 p.m., and the show begins at 8 p.m. Tickets are $15-$18 and available online.

Foster Kids Charity, a local nonprofit run by a Preston Hollow resident, is hosting a back-to-school drive 10 a.m.-noon Saturday at the Foster Kids Charity office. The group needs more volunteers to help assemble school supply packages, snack bags and other items for foster children in need.
