Art structures made of cans will be on display at NorthPark Center starting Oct. 6. Dallas architects and engineers will build the Canstruction structures from 6 a.m. – noon with an array of canned food items. The participants will use thousands of cans for the food drive that benefits the North Texas Food Bank. More than 480,000 cans were donated in the past five years. The art will be on display until Oct. 21. near Macy’s.

The Cooper Clinic hosts a Nutrition Seminar, “Clearing up the Confusion: Food, Fitness and Fun” 9-11:30 a.m. Oct. 6. Registered and licensed dieticians will discuss: the truth about the latest fad diets including Paleo and Dukan, what’s new in fitness and health,”wheatophobia” verses the need for eating Gluten-Free and strategies to begin a well-rounded healthy lifestyle. Come hungry because they will also serve up a nutritious breakfast and a cooking demonstration. The event is at the Cooper Aerobics Center’s Hotel and is $40. You can register here.

It’s My Park Day starts at 8 a.m. Oct. 6 where volunteers will spend a few hours cleaning up their local parks. Volunteers are still needed to spread new artificial mulch, weed flower beds, pick up trash and debris and more. To help out you can bring shovels, rakes, wheel barrows and hoes. Councilwoman Linda Koop will thank the handy helpers at a 11 a.m. appreciation ceremony following the clean-up to be held at Valley View Park. Lillie Madison, the newly crowned Ms. Texas Senior and first African American woman to earn that title, will also be present.

Jam out to Jazz in the Park starting at 9 p.m. at La Duni near NorthPark Center’s gardens. Nookie Thompson will perform “a blend of modern jazz, blues and soul” music. DJ Gina G will also be there and you can sip on signature cocktails while strolling past art installations. Tickets are $22 online (this includes the fee) and $25 at the door. Either ticket purchase comes with one free drink.
