Cabell Elementary received a $75,000 Real School Garden grant to create a new garden in the school’s courtyard, Preston Hollow resident Jeri Kitner says. Volunteers are welcome to the garden installation that will take place 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Oct. 13 at the school. Features include a shaded gathering area, stage area, native perennial plants, a pond, an earth science station, vegetable beds, fruit trees, composting station and rainwater harvesting.

St. Monica Catholic School’s annual fall AutumnFest carnival is Oct. 13 from noon- 9:30 pm at the school. Admission is free, but tickets for food, games, raffles and rides can be purchased at the door. Some of the attractions include: a rolling video game truck, bounce houses, obstacle course, dodge ball, rock climbing, zip line, carnival games and food court area.

The Tycher Library hosts a free magic show and program at 4 p.m. Oct. 14 in honor of famous escape artist Harry Houdini. The free show is open to the public. Apparently Houdini’s family was a rabbi and the library is thrilled to teach attendees more about the performer at its family-friendly show suitable for children 6-12 years old.
