Update: When St. Bernard Sports asked its customers to bring in gently used winter coats through Nov. 21 employees thought it would take a week to collect 3,600 coats for the homeless.

Through generous donations they met that goal in two and a half days, but are still collecting coats until tomorrow, Nov. 21.

St. Bernard’s gave out thousands of dollars in gift cards as each person received a $30 gift card per coat (with a limit of ten coats per family).

They’ve had to change the maximum to three gift cards per family to still show their thanks after collecting such a high rate of coats.

With so many gift cards and coats donated hopefully this winter will be a warm one for all.

Original Post: Bring your gently used winter coats to St. Bernard Sports now through Nov. 21 and get a $30 gift card to the store.

The coat collection is a part of Keep Dallas Warm, which began two years ago after Briggs Freeman Sotheby’s International Realty and St. Benard Sports teamed up to collect 3,600 winter coats for the homeless.

You can even bring up to 10 coats to the location at Inwood Village on Lovers Lane to receive up to $300 in gift cards to spend in the store.

Coats will be distributed to The Stewpot and Crossroads Community Services, the homeless advocates that businessman Jim Silcock contacted two years ago when he first came up with the idea to give $10,000 worth of coats to the homeless.
