James Disco at the screening of “The Suffering Grasses”

I recently touched base with James Disco, activist and tennis instructor at Dealey, about how his upcoming project, “Upstanders Quest, True Stories of Survivors of Slavery,” is coming along and he gave me some exciting news.

Now if you didn’t get the chance to read my February Q&A with Disco about his graphic novel, “Echoes of the Lost Boys of Sudan,” I ask you to give it a read before proceeding.

Disco says he’s changed his plan for the Upstanders Quest comic, and is adding a documentary film along with companion cartoon art.

Jesse James Arnold, Dallas Black literary historian and McShann resident, will speak in Disco’s documentary, and Disco says he’ll have a cartoon scene to go along with the interview of Arnold remembering singer Mahalia Jackson (featured below).

The completed documentary will features a series of interviews from contributors and characters in Upstanders Quest.
