The City Council today will hold a public hearing for an ordinance that would allow for a new restaurant on the northwestern end of the Lowe’s Home Improvement property at Forest and Inwood.

The council is expected to approve the plans, which do not include a drive-through.

The City Plan Commission approved the request June 6, after a parking study of the area. Hermansen Land Development, the real estate developer behind the project, needed a zoning change to the lot because it only specifies off-street parking for Lowe’s — not a restaurant.

The planned development district permits just three non-residential uses within 100 feet of the Inwood frontage, which is , as we know, is mostly low-density, residential homes.

Hermansen couldn’t be reached for comment on what that new restaurant might be, but we’ll be keeping an eye on it. Here’s what the building will look like, according to their website.

Neighbors may remember another zoning request for Lowe’s back in January 2011 that eventually was denied, following intense neighborhood opposition. The plan was for a Murphy Express gas station and convenience store, selling beer and wine directly across the street form Jesuit and St. Rita schools.
