Village Burger Bar’s goat cheese portobello burger: Terri Glanger

Here’s some major burger-related news: West Village’s Village Burger Bar is opening its second location in Dallas proper — across from Jesuit Preparatory School on 12300 Inwood — on Tuesday, Oct. 22.

Owners Susan and Mike Matta opened the original West Village location in 2005. This will be the fourth Village Burger location for the Mattas — the other two locations are in McKinney and Allen.

Susan develops all the recipes for the menu, which Mike explains are intended to capture the feel of a neighborhood burger joint (with some other menu options so the regulars don’t get bored) at decent prices: burgers, panini and salads cost around $6-8, and fries are $2 extra.

There are several fancy “cheffed-up” burgers on the menu (with the portobello one above for the veggie-heads), but a fun option is to pick your meat — turkey, chicken or beef — and dress up your burger with delicious toppings made in-house, ranging from artichoke aioli to bourbon caramelized onions.

The kitchen at the Inwood location will also act as a research and development test kitchen for all new Village Burger Bar menu items. Matta’s first addition will be fried pickles as a starter, with a number of other recipes planned soon after opening.

I’ve never been out to the locations in the ‘burbs, but the Inwood location looks like it will cater more to families than the West Village spot. The press release says that there will be a ping pong table and a bar inside with 19 local beers on tap (with root beer on tap for the kids) in a “warm and modern setting.”

Starting Oct. 22, the Inwood Village Burger Bar will be open 11 a.m.-10 p.m Sunday-Thursday, and 11 a.m.-midnight Fridays and Saturdays. For more information call 214-484-4679.
