Last night Debbie and Michael Thompson hosted a party in their lovely Preston Hollow home, kicking off a fundraising campaign for Nexus Recovery Center. The Dallas-based nonprofit assists women and children as they recover from addiction.

Michael and his brother, Jere Jr. are the 2013-2014 Nexus annual fund chairs. Their father, Jere Thompson Sr., is the son of Joe C. Thompson Jr., the founder of Oak Cliff-born company 7-eleven.

Michael and Jere Jr. have set a goal to raise $200,000 in two weeks for Nexus Recovery Center in honor of their mother Peggy, who passed away earlier this year.

Jere Thompson Sr.’s wife Peggy was a founding member of the Nexus auxiliary board, which is now in it’s 17th year.

Michael and Jere Jr. have set out to raise $200,000 — that’s $50,000 more than last year’s goal to support the recover center.

At yesterday’s party, Michael presented a check to Nexus, announcing that the Thompsons will give a matching grant of $30,000 in honor of Peggy to begin the fundraising efforts. Read more about the programs supported by funds, as well as immediate needs of the recovery center, here.
