The schools are closed, races are being cancelled, the arctic winds are blowing, and thousands of people in our neighborhood alone are experiencing power outages. It’s official: winter storm Cleon has hit Dallas. And, there’s one more round of snow expected to sweep in today.

So far, the greatest danger outside of my window are the fallen branches of trees not strong enough to bear the weight of branches that are heavy with ice.

As I walked outside to inspect some of the damage, one of my neighbors, (who’s 8-years-old and attends a private school in the area,) told me she was thrilled about school being closed. She was attempting to mold the icy snow, with some difficulty, into a giant snowball to peg her younger brother with.

Folks, stay safe out there, especially if you have to drive. Even walking in this stuff can be risky, as evidenced by the sweet toddler in the video below. Also, if you have any photos of Cleon’s impact on your street, pictures of ice, snowmen, or just some cute babies playing in the snow like the one in this video, send them to wthompson@advocatemag.com.
