Hillcrest High School alumnus Alex Rivera is hosting a benefit this Sunday for Olivia Smith, a 1991 Hillcrest grad in the midst of fighting throat cancer. According to Rivera, Smith is unable to work due to her health and needs help paying for chemo treatments. She is married with five children.

The benefit for Smith will be held from 7-10 p.m. at Hacienda on Henderson in East Dallas. Rivera, who’s also an accomplished trumpet player, will be there performing live with his jazz quartet. Musician Shelley Carrol and vocalists Glennda Hill and Victor Cager will perform live as well.

Dallas Tortilla and Tamale Factory is sponsoring the event, so it is free to attend, aside from whatever food and drink purchased at the restaurant. Any donations made at the event will go directly towards Smith’s cancer treatment.
