After 16 years of serving up burgers, milkshakes, and hot dogs, Preston Hollow’s Purple Cow Restaurantclosed its doors for good on March 5.

Dallas Morning News reports that owner Vicki Bell, who closed two of the three Purple Cow restaurants last year, is considering leaving the restaurant business altogether to start a new venture repurposing furniture. Bell took over the company after the original owner retired last year.

The burger joint, known for its kid-friendly fare and adult friendly booze-infused shakes, also served breakfast and participated in numerous community fundraisers. Purple Cow’s self-professed claim to fame was being the only restaurant in the world that sold purple Blue Bell ice cream.

We featured Purple Cow in our October 2011 magazine for its fried guilty pleasures such as the bacon-wrapped hot dog and the fried apple pies.
