Check out some designer hats and raise funds for skin cancer prevention by strolling in the tenth annual AIM for the CURE melanoma walk — hosted by Scott Murray, Emmy Award winning broadcaster and cancer survivor — Saturday, May 3, at the Pavilion Area at Bachman Lake Park. The 3.3-mile leisurely walk/run features face painting, balloon twisting, and a raffle prize drawing. There is no fee to participate; instead, each walker is encouraged to raise a minimum of $50 to benefit melanoma research. Registration begins at 8 a.m., and opening ceremony starts at 9 a.m. Several high-fashion, whimsical sun hats will debut at the event. Designed by local personalities, fashion designers and trendsetters, the hats will be available in an online auction beginning April 30 at midnight through May 31. Proceeds will benefit AIM at Melanoma — one of the largest international melanoma foundations in the world — and DermOne will match the highest bid (up to $500 maximum). Hat designers include radio personality Julie Fisk, host of “Zazza & Julie,” KVIL 103.7-FM, Preston Hollow’s Leslie Ezelle (of Leslie Christine Designs, HGTV “AllStar” winner, interior designer, and former Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader,) and Prashi Shah, national fashion designer of Prashe and event décor designer of Prashe Décor, to name a few.
