Inwood Village’s newly opened Tex-Mex spot Mesero, the third restaurant for Mi Cocina founder Mico Rodriguez, features food that’s “alive compared to your typical lard-laden bean pit,” and is “packed with Preston Hollow locals,” according to a recent review by Dallas Observer.

Cucina Neighborhood Italian, the Italian restaurant that replaced Mi Piaci in Preston Center, also earned some praise, this time from D Magazine. What’s good to eat there? Lauryn Bodden recommends the fried tomato caprese, fresh sea bass and cheesecake.

Dallas Business Journal reports that four Galleria Dallas restaurants will be serving up fried desserts this fall, all in the spirit of the Texas State Fair. From Sept. 26-Oct. 19 (while the fair is open), splurge Texas-State-Fair-style at the following restaurants:

  • The Grill on the Alley: Apple fried pie with Blue Bell vanilla ice cream
  • Grand Lux Cafe: Southern fried peach hand pie with vanilla ice cream
  • The Oceanaire: Fried banana with peanut butter and maple bacon sauce
  • The Second Floor by Scott Gottlich: Chocolate, peanut butter and banana stuffed wontons
