Next month, the Hillcrest High School Alumni Association honors five graduates during the Platinum Panthers Celebration 6-8 p.m. Oct. 13 Oct. 15 at Crossroads Diner. This year’s distinguished alumni include some noteworthy names that came through Hillcrest during the 1950s and ’60s.

Reginald K. Brack, 1955, served as the chairman and CEO of Time Inc. magazine publishing from 1985 to 1997 and was later inducted into the Advertising Hall of Fame.

Bennett Glazer, 1963, is chairman and CEO of Glazer’s Inc., one of the largest distributors of wine, spirits and malt beverages in the United States. Over the past 15 years, revenues have grown from $700 million to $4 billion with a presence both in the United States and abroad.

Alexander “Sandy” Kress, 1967, is senior counsel at Akin Gump Strauss Hauer and Feld LLP, which focuses on state and national public law and policy, including education, reform and accountability. He served as senior adviser to President George W. Bush on education and the No Child Left Behind Act. He’s also a past president of the Dallas ISD Board of Trustees.

Curtis W. Meadows, Jr., 1956, served as president, CEO and director of the Meadows Foundation from 1980 to 1996 and now is director emeritus. During his time at the helm, he grew the foundation’s assets from $60 million to $735 million, distributing more than $270 million in charitable donations. Before that, he practiced law for 17 years Ray, Anderson, Shields, Trotti and Hemphill in Dallas.

Rabbi Mark L. Winer, 1960, is an American and British international interfaith scholar and leader. This year, he was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire for promoting “interfaith dialogue and social cohesion in London and the UK.”

Admission to the Platinum Panthers Celebration is $35, and reservations should be made before Oct. 11. Make checks payable to Friends of Hillcrest, 16302 Sunset Valley, Dallas, TX 75248. There is a cash bar 5-6 p.m., and dinner is 6-8 p.m. Crossroads Diner is at 8121 Walnut Hill just east of Central.
