Editor’s Note: Due to a little sloppiness on our part, some of our Lake Highlands newsletter readers will end up at this link when looking for the winner of the Lake Highlands Best Burger voting. While you’ll also enjoy Village Burger Bar if you want to make the drive to Preston Hollow, here’s the link to our Lake Highlands Best Burger winner, Varsity Grill.

Village Burger Bar’s popularity has grown steadily since opening last year. So fast, in fact, that Preston Hollow Advocate readers voted the restaurant the best burger spot in the neighborhood.

Owners and Preston Hollow residents Mike and Susan Matta have opened four locations of the gourmet burger concept, each with its own unique feel. Our location is decidedly family-friendly, with ping pong tables on the dog-friendly patio and flat-screen TVs inside.

Despite the laidback vibe the burgers are more on the fancier-side. Sure, you can go the traditional route and order a plain cheeseburger, but there are also turkey burgers and portabello burgers too. And why not splurge on condiments such as champagne mustard and artichoke aioli?

General manager Thomas Hilbert says that the combination of a welcoming environment and cheffed-up burgers has garnered more than a few regulars.

“We’re doing something right if all of our business is repeat customers,” he says.

Recently one of those regulars, who happens to be a friend of the Mattas, inspired a new menu item: the “Dougie” burger. It comes with cheddar, bacon, a cage-free fried egg, lettuce, tomato, red onion, and a hollandaise-mustard sauce.

Another thing that sets Village Burger Bar apart from other burger joints is its beer selection. Foodies looking to enhance their burger experience with a particular beer pairing can choose from 19 beers on tap, with a number of North Texas brews on tap to boot.
