On Monday, Providence Christian School students in classes one to four tested out their brand new playground, which was funded by Providence parents, grandparents, teachers, and alumni.

Seven seniors at The Hockaday School have been named 2015 National Achievement Program outstanding participants referred to colleges: Kenya Roy, Staci Shelby, Whytne Stevens, Sydney Thomas, Olivia Whittaker, Kennedy Williams, and Cierra Wright. The academic competition was established in 1964 to provide recognition for outstanding Black American high school students.

The Hillcrest High School Alumni Association honored five of its own during its inaugural Platinum Panther Celebration, held last week. Honorees are listed below:

  • Reginald K. Brack, who was chairman and CEO of Time Inc. magazine publishing from 1985 to 1997 and later inducted into the Advertising Hall of Fame.
  • Bennett Glazer is chairman and CEO of Glazer’s Inc., which distributes wine, spirits and malt beverages. Over the last 15 years, the company says, its revenue has grown from $700 million to $4 billion, and it now has operations in the U.S. and abroad.
  • Alexander “Sandy” Kress is senior counsel at Akin Gump Strauss Hauer and Feld LLP, which focuses on state and national public law and policy, including education, reform and accountability. Kress was a senior adviser to President George W. Bush on education and the No Child Left Behind Act. He’s also a past president of the Dallas ISD Board of Trustees.
  • Curtis W. Meadows Jr. was president, CEO and director of the Meadows Foundation from 1980 to 1996 and is now director emeritus. During his time at the helm, he expanded the foundation’s assets from $60 million to $735 million, distributing more than $270 million in charitable donations. Before that, he practiced law for 17 years in Dallas.
  • Rabbi Mark L. Winer is an interfaith scholar and leader. This year, he was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire for promoting “interfaith dialogue and social cohesion in London and the U.K.”
