A familiar face has entered the running for the May 9 elections. Edwin Flores, who served as District 1 Dallas ISD Trustee for seven years (2005-2012) announced in a press release Tuesday that he will again run for his old seat on the board.

“I am running to return strong leadership, greater community access, better accountability, and the ability to work with the board and administration on behalf of District 1 students, taxpayers and DISD employees,” Flores said in a statement.

We interviewed Flores as he left office back in 2012 and reflected on his tenure.

District 1 includes the W.T. White and Thomas Jefferson feeder patterns. Elizabeth Jones currently holds the seat but, the Dallas Morning News reports that she is battling breast cancer and has not decided whether she will seek re-election.

Flores is a biotechnology patent attorney with a J.D. from The University of Texas School of Law, a Ph.D. in Molecular Immunology from Washington University, St. Louis, and a B.S. in Microbiology from UT Austin.

He has named community leader and businessman Ron Steinhart as his treasurer.
