Nothing like July 4 to inspire patriotism. If the fireworks ignited your sense of civic duty, consider getting politically involved with one of these five neighborhood clubs.

1. The Preston Hollow Democrats – Led by George Edwards, this group gathers once a month at Preston Royal Library. The next meeting is this Thursday at 6 p.m.

2. North Dallas Texas Democratic Women – Engage in “political group therapy” with North Dallas Texas Democratic Women. The group meets at Northaven United Methodist Church the fourth Thursday of every month. Members also host book clubs and movie nights.

3. Preston West Republican Women – Preston West Republican Women has been around since 1953. The club throws an annual fundraising luncheon and conducts monthly meetings around our neighborhood. Head to Angela’s Cafe August 28 to meet Texas State Representative Jason Villalba.

4. Dallas County Young Republicans – People between the ages of 18 and 40 join Dallas County Young Republicans to make friends, network and train poll watchers. The group recently met at Bowl & Barrel for happy hour. College students receive discounted membership rates.

5. Dallas Public Affairs Luncheon Club – Find out what’s going on locally by attending the Dallas Public Affairs Luncheon Club. All luncheons are held at Park City Club on Sherry Lane. Tickets are priced at $35 for members and $40 for nonmembers.
