NorthPark Presbyterian Church

In this youth-obsessed world, it’s comforting to know that our neighborhood has plenty of respect for the elderly. Here are three upcoming events that seek to mitigate issues associated with aging.

1. Dr. Diana Kerwin: On August 12, Dr. Diana Kerwin stops by NorthPark Presbyterian Church to discuss how lifestyle choices affect brain health. As the Medical Director of Texas Alzheimer’s and Memory Disorders, she’s sure to be full of insight. Casa de Vida, which provides respite care for the families of those with dementia, is sponsoring the event. Click here to register.

2. Financial Frauds & Scams: The Crime of the 21st Century: According to a recent Cornell University study, older people are more than two times more likely to be the victims of financial exploitation than physical or sexual assault. The Elder Financial Safety Center is out to change that statistic. On August 22, from 9 a.m. – noon, the group will host “Financial Frauds & Scams: The Crime of the 21st Century” at Lovers Lane United Methodist Church. Attendees will learn ways to protect their assets in the era of the Internet. To RSVP, email efsc@theseniorsource.org.

3. Healing Hands for Arthritis: Arthritis is by no means reserved for the elderly. But, “the risk of arthritis does increase with age. Almost half of adults 65-years-old or older have arthritis.” Want to help? Head to Massage Envy on Preston and Forest September 16. A portion of the proceeds from your spa service will be donated to the Arthritis Foundation. For details, click here.
