The neighborhood bakery bonanza continues today with the opening of Society Bakery in the Preston Royal shopping center. It marks the third location for Society, which also has bakeries on Lower Greenville and Forest Lane.

While three locations in close quarters may seem like a lot, after Ellen Degeneres named Society Bakery one of the top 10 cupcakes in America, demand for the sweets have boomed.

The 1,000-square-foot space, which was previously occupied by Toni Rivard’s Cakeballs (which is now at the NorthPark Center), will include the Society staples customers know and love in addition to some new offerings. You can find their classic pimento cheese, available on sandwiches or to go, along with new recipes like the Fruity Pebble cookie, which is packed with the popular cereal.

“We have been extremely successful creating all of the custom birthday cakes for Kidville, which will be our neighbor at this location, so families in the area are familiar with the talented our pastry team,” says owner Roshi Muns.

The bakery, at 6025 Royal Lane suite 127, is open Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. On Saturday, June 11, the bakery will offer an opening special with a buy three, get one free deal.

Along with Society Bakery, we’ve seen the addition of Carlo’s Bakery, whose lines continue to snake the block some days; Hospitality Sweets and SusieCakes. Oddly, in that same time, we lost LYFE Kitchen, showing that sweets > health food in our ‘hood.
