A high profile policeman, the chief for Dallas ISD, Craig Miller’s is a familiar face on TV and news stories connected to crime and Dallas’ school district (Lake Highlands is mostly Richardson ISD, but we’re still likely to see him in local news stories. Like, when a student carries a gun to school and accidentally shoots himself, Miller is there.). He’d been on the force 30 years when he was sworn in as DISD’s chief in 2011.
Now Miller is in the news for a different reason. He’s retiring and launching a new business, which he and a group of partners will roll out over the next 30 days. He will remain at his current post until the end of the year, he tells the Dallas Morning News.
The service will provide an alternative to Uber, especially for students, according to the article, and will employ off-duty police officers as drivers.
People will feel safer driving with police officers and having them drive their children, Miller told the News. “Having a police officer as a driver,” he adds, provides “instant credibility for being safe and trustworthy.”
It seems the service will not immediately be available to Dallas or Richardson kids, however; the chief tells the Morning News that the operation will “start in the Park Cities and eventually expand.” The name of the biz? Bubbl.
