Kathrine Switzer has spent most of her life blazing new trails for female runners. This month, she shares her story in our neighborhood to raise funds for Girls on the Run.

Switzer not only was the first woman to run in the 1967 Boston Marathon but also established races for women in 27 countries as part of the Avon International Running Circuit. She’ll speak about her experiences at the Girls on the Run —DFW Metroplex Luncheon on Sept. 23.

The luncheon will be held from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. at the Cooper Hotel at 12230 Preston Road. Individual tickets cost $125, VIP tickets cost $250 and table sponsorships start at $1,500.

Proceeds go toward Girls on the Run, a nonprofit that focuses on the health and self-esteem of girls in grades 3-8.
