Preston Hollow native Laura Weaver’s boots are still made for dancing, even if the last time she high kicked her way across the football field was in the late 1970s.

She spent this past Friday performing with past and present Caballeras to “These Boots Are Made for Walkin’” at W.T. White’s homecoming game. While faux leather is no longer a part of the team’s ensemble, Weaver says learning the choreography “came right back.”

The performance is part of the drill team alumni’s efforts to become mentors to the girls, and they hope to volunteer at the team’s summer camp.

Junior Alondra Mendoza says the best part of working with the alums is learning about how the Caballeras’ style, goals and traditions have changed— and stayed the same—over the years. “It’s a very refreshing thought.”
