With $37 million raised for more than 2,500 nonprofits yesterday, North Texas Giving Day illustrates just how generous our community can be.

One of the charities that benefitted from the giving bonanza at NorthPark Center is Rainbow Days, just across Central Expressway from Preston Hollow. The anti-drug youth program Cathey Brown founded three decades ago received $22,125 from 104 donors in support of its efforts.

Rainbow Days offers prevention programs and support groups for youth and families dealing with addiction. Brown, who has struggled with alcoholism herself, established the nonprofit when she was still a teacher and school counselor.

In 2007, we interviewed Brown about her efforts, and you can read the piece here.
