If you’ve set foot inside the Cooper Clinic on Preston Road, you’ve undoubtedly seen the booming “Get Cooperized” sign. It was inspired by the clinic’s high-profile founder, Dr. Kenneth Cooper, who, at 85, is in better shape than many Americans thanks to a lifetime dedicated to diet an exercise. After coining the term “aerobics” in 1968, he spent his prolific career touting the need for more emphasis on a healthy lifestyle, and building facilities aimed at helping people reach that goal.

This Wednesday, he’ll be honored for his work during a fundraiser for The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. Called “Conversation with a Living Legend,” Cooper will be interviewed by Judge Jeanne Phillips, who served as an ambassador with Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development under President George W. Bush. Get all the event details here.

Cooper was featured in the Advocate’s 2012 “Local Legends” edition alongside photographer Laura Wilson (and mother of ultra-famous Luke and Owen Wilson), and voice of the Ranger’s Eric Nadel.
