Early voting starts on Monday, April 24 — less than a month from now — for the City Council District 11 and Dallas ISD Board of Trustees District 2 races. Both seats represent a good chunk of Preston Hollow, and the two incumbents, Councilman Lee Kleinman and Trustee Dustin Marshall, have serious contenders in elections that typically are decided by a few thousand voters.

At this point in 2016’s DISD elections and 2015’s City Council elections, voting-inclined citizens were bombarded with meet-and-greets, candidate forums and fundraisers. This time around, not so much. We reached out to all of the candidates this week, and as far as we have heard, no forums (the local version of a political debate) are on the horizon. Other campaign events are few and far between.

So if you want to meet the candidates before Election Day on Saturday, May 6, one of your best bets is to be home when they show up on your doorstep while block walking, as that and social media seem to be the main ways they are interacting with voters during this race.

City Council District 11

Challenger Candy Evans — former journalist-turned-real-estate-blogger — has not yet scheduled any public events, although she told the Advocate at least one is being planned.

Incumbent Lee Kleinman’s campaign efforts also have remained private. “At this time, we don’t have anything scheduled in the near future,” his campaign manager, Eddie Rogers, told the Advocate in an email.

Dallas ISD District 2

Hillside resident Lori Kirkpatrick has a meet and greet this evening, May 29, 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Two Corks and a Bottle in Oak Lawn; a fundraiser Thursday night, March 30, at Times Ten Cellars in Lakewood (find information here); an event with the Vickery Place Neighborhood Association on Wednesday, April 12, 6 p.m. in the Lakewood Library; and an event with the North Dallas Democratic Women on Thursday, April 27, 6:30 p.m. at Northaven United Methodist Church.

Preston Hollow resident Dustin Marshall doesn’t have any campaign events scheduled but does have three community coffees on the calendar between now and the election. These events began last fall, and he describes them as “a casual and informal opportunity to meet with me and discuss your priorities and concerns.” He’ll be at the Skillman-Live Oak Buzzbrews this Friday, March 31, 8:30-10 a.m. and again on Thursday, April 13, 9-10:30 a.m., and at Neuhaus Cafe in the Preston Royal Shopping Center on Thursday, April 27, 8-9:30 a.m.
