The first energy-positive retail store in the US is making its mark in Preston Hollow.

TreeHouse — opening this summer at The Hill Shopping Center — will run on a battery and solar energy system. The retailer will be the only in the nation that puts energy back into the grid. (That’s what makes it energy positive.)

TreeHouse rose to popularity in Austin as the mecca of eco-friendly home improvement supplies. The company officially enters the Dallas market on June 1, and a third location in Plano will follow this coming fall.

“This is our growing up and going to the big leagues,” CEO Jason Ballard says.

TreeHouse already caught the city’s attention with the Sustainable Home of the Future exhibition at NorthPark Center. Constructed with environmentally friendly materials, the home is on display for the next two months.

Rumor has it Houndstooth also found a home at the shopping center near Walnut Hill Lane and N. Central Expressway, although the popular coffee shop has yet to confirm if that’s true.
