It’s been three years since neighbors learned that Forestwood Townhouse Community would be razed to make way for a mixed-use development.

This week, the City Plan Commission approved the developer’s request to replat the land, creating four lots on the northwest corner of Forest and Inwood.

The Daniels family, who has owned Forestwood for more than 160 years, plans to construct single-family houses, townhomes and senior living on the property. Jesuit College Preparatory School also is acquiring a portion of the land to create athletic fields.

The project sparked controversy when it first was introduced in 2014. Forestwood residents wondered where they could live once one of the few affordable housing options in Preston Hollow was eliminated. Nearby neighbors worried about increased traffic and the high density of the housing.

The Daniels family tweaked plans to accommodate neighbors’ requests. Any retail plans were nixed, and the proposal was scaled back.

We’ll keep you updated on the project once we know more.
