Preston Hollow and Walnut Hill elementaries were recognized as two of the highest performing public schools in North Texas.

They were named top Gold-Ribbon Elementary Schools by Children at Risk, a nonprofit established in 1989 to improve the lives of Texas children through research, public policy and advocacy.

The organization uses STAAR exam results and growth on standardized tests to measure the success of schools statewide. The percentage of economically disadvantaged students at each campus also are taken into account when determining rankings.

Half of the gold-ribbon elementary schools that Children at Risk acknowledged are part of Dallas ISD.
