As the City of Dallas develops its Assessment of Fair Housing Plan, local officials are hosting several meetings to solicit feedback.

District 13 residents can learn about the Department of Fair Housing and discuss the city’s housing issues Wednesday, July 26, at the Walnut Hill Recreation Center. The meeting is slated from 6-8 p.m.

Municipalities that receive funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Development are required to develop an Assessment of Fair Housing Plan, which analyzes how race and poverty affect housing needs and access to opportunity.

A recent Inclusive Communities Study shows that the city’s private apartment complexes often refuse to accept housing choice vouchers. Only 12 percent of roughly 1,901 properties in Dallas, Denton, Collin and Rockwall counties accept vouchers, according to the study, and 26 suburbs never accept them.
