Four things to do this weekend: Tax Free Weekend, backpacking class, gardening workshop or an art project

Tax Free Weekend is underway at NorthPark Center, where clothing, shoes and backpacks under $100 will be exempt from state and local sales taxes. The shopping center will be open from 10 a.m.-1o p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 11 a.m.-7 p.m. on Sunday.

NorthPark’s ArtROCKS dives into the work of Frida Kahlo on Friday, Aug. 12. A scavenger hunt, cookie decorating and walkSTEM tours are part of the event, slated from 1-4 p.m.

If wanderlust strikes, Dallas Sierra Club is leading a backpacking class for beginners on Saturday, Aug. 12,  at Whole Foods. Learn tips on traipsing the backcountry and what to bring from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. The interactive class costs $35 for Sierra Club members and $40 for nonmembers. Get all the details here.

Gardeners struggling to keep their plants alive in the scorching sun can stop by North Haven Gardens to learn which greenery tolerates the heat and needs less water. The free hourlong class on Saturday starts at 11 a.m.
