You can’t help but smile when your sizzling beef tenderloin with black pepper sauce is set down in front of you, and it has been plated on a cast-iron fajita platter in the shape of a cow. But presentation isn’t the only draw at Howard Wang’s China Grill. The menu boasts dishes that are “borderline traditional — westernized,” says Jowin Wang, Howard’s son. “We like to grasp both concepts at the same time.” Take, for example, the vanilla prawns tossed with honey cream sauce and candied walnuts — not your typical sweet and sour shrimp treatment. Although there is a spot on the menu dedicated to “traditional” Chinese fare, the HWCG’s Signature Dishes section highlights some of the more creative recipes from the Wang family, which has been a name in the Dallas Chinese food circuit since 1982.
