Former prime minister of Great Britain and Northern Ireland Tony Blair will be at SMU tonight to be awarded with the Medal of Freedom. Every two years the university awards someone “who has furthered the cause of freedom throughout the world”––whatever that means.
Past honorees include Colin Powell, Margaret Thatcher, Tommy Franks, Jon McCain, and of course, President George W. Bush. Hmmmmm, is it just me, or do you see a trend here?
Tonight’s ceremony kicks off at 8:30. For more information, call 214.768.8283. Tomorrow at 9 a.m. Tony Blair will also host a high school forum in the McFarlin auditorium. For more information about that, e-mail Rennie Chun.
