The Native Arts Gallery off Preston and Forest is going out of business. I was on an errand run when I spotted the closing signs in the windows advertising its 60 percent off clearance sale.

Tonight I got an email from the American Indian Arts Council stating that the failing economy played a role in the gallery’s closure. The gallery will officially close its doors May 1. Weather permitting, there will be sidewalk clearance sales Saturdays March 14 and 18, and April 11 and 25.

I’m sad to see this gallery go. Not only did it have some topnotch exhibitions, it was also a venue for some great cultural happenings—several of which we covered here at Advocate. It’s a shame; our neighborhood just lost a great cultural gem.
