Back in my hometown San Diego, cruiser bikes are huge part of boardwalk culture. But here in our landlocked city, they’re just an afterthought at most bike shops. Not so at Fleetwood’s Kit Kat. This new boutique just off Katy Trail is all about tricked out cruiser bikes.

If you’re not quite ready to plop down the cash for one of these cruisers, you can rent them ($15 the first hour, and $5 every hour after that). Or better yet, you can take advantage of one of their weekly free rides on the Katy Trail Friday nights at 8, or Sunday afternoons at 2. Most rides are 10-15 miles, but the group typically stops for lunch or to enjoy a cocktail out on a nearby patio.

The shop has 40 bikes available for the free rides on a first come, first served basis. The bikes go fast, especially the hot pink cruiser I hear, so you can reserve a bike by sending the shop an email a day in advance. And if you don’t have a helmet, they’re happy to provide you with one.

Oh, and aside from bikes, the boutique also sells vintage Western shirts, retro home furnishings, cool stickers (which are free) and homemade cupcakes on weekends.
