Laura Bush will be the speaker at Southern Methodist University’s 94th  commencement ceremony May 16.

The former First Lady and Preston Hollow’s newest resident is an alumna of the university and currently sits on its board of trustees. And of course, there’s the whole “my husband’s building his library here” thing.

When he was governor, George W. Bush built his wife an outdoor seating and garden area in front of the school’s main Fondren Library. The Laura Bush Promenade was dedicated to her contributions to libraries and literature.

And in case anyone was wondering what student reaction to the announcement would be, the university gives us this undoubtedly original and un-manipulated quote from student trustee Lamar Dowling:

“As a graduating senior, I cannot think of anyone I would rather have speak at my commencement ceremony,” Dowling said in a release. “Over the past eight years of serving our country, Mrs. Bush has gained experiences around the nation and globe that have provided her much wisdom to share. As an SMU alumna, she has a variety of accomplishments to show the infinite possibilities that an SMU education can provide.”
