I recently got to check out Marsh Middle School’s new Leadership Cadet Corps Academy—a video of its grand opening is here after the jump.

The ceremony was actually quite impressive. Having been an Air Force wife, I’ve attended a military function or two—and I can tell you, these kids are the real deal.  They take a lot of pride in their JROTC program, and it showed in how polished they all were during this ceremony.

But what impressed me even more was that this wasn’t just a school function; it was an all-out neighborhood celebration. Neighborhood veterans were there to be honored, I spotted Edwin Flores and Ann Margolin in attendance, the WT White mariachi band came to perform, and afterward everyone gathered on the school lawn for a huge cookout. There was a genuine sense of community on that campus, which was especially refreshing because it’s often so elusive in Preston Hollow.
