With “Dancing with the Stars” and “American Idol” wrapping up this week, it seems only perfect timing that Franklin Middle School would host its fifth annual Lip Synch Contest.

The event was M.C.-ed by choir director Angela Warner, and students, faculty and staff gave their best lip-synched renditions of songs by the Dixie Chicks, Nirvana, TI and Justin Timberlake, Jennifer Lopez, and the Beatles.

The kids got two chances to perform and $2 tickets were sold out for both events. The event raised funds for the Franklin Drama Club.
Sixth grader Will Wakefield on the guitar and the Franklin modern dance and Falconette teams performed while the judges – drama teacher Ursula Hollingsworth, computer teacher Michelle Heard, and language arts teacher Jeffrey Schroeder deliberated to pick the winners.

The winners of the contest are:

First place – “Barbie Girl” performed by Sugey Orneles, Amaraini Ayala, Daniela Parra and Germie Johnson

Second place – “Wicked” performed by Devin Leibs, Julia Gross and Natalie Marshall

Third place- “Play That Funky Music, White Boy!” performed by Davis Bittner, Hunter Tomlin, and Cole Morgan

The top faculty/staff award went to counselor Munya Roberts, custodian Reggie Jones and a chorus of students with their rendition of “I Got the Victory.”
