They came home from shopping, and the car was gone.

David Yancey was out for the afternoon with his daughter. She left her black 2005 Honda Civic in the front drive, and off they went. An hour or so later, they returned, and the Civic was gone.

“It just happened in the middle of the day,” Yancey says. “We went to go shopping and came home a couple hours later and said, ‘Something’s different.’ The car was gone.”

The car theft was frustrating and disheartening.

“It was kind of weird to have something stolen right in front of the house,” Yancey says.

However, this case did have a happy ending a few days later when the car was found. Yancey praised police for their efforts.

“The Dallas cops did a great job and got it back in a couple days,” he says. “I’m not sure it had any damage at all.”

Dallas Police Lt. Barry Payne of the North Central Patrol Division also was pleased that the car was recovered.

“The officers recovering the car did a good job in finding it,” he says.

Payne says residents can try a couple of tactics to help prevent car thefts.

“My best prevention tip would be to secure your car in the garage, if possible, and keep it locked and take all keys to the vehicle,” he says.
