Given all the publicity of wrong way drivers on the Dallas North Tollway, like me, you may be looking for another route for nighttime driving. (So far, these accidents have only happened at night, I’m guessing because there is less traffic than during the day.) While there are no statistics to show these alternatives are safer, there have been no reports of wrong way drivers on these roadways in recent months.

If you’re in a hurry or can’t stand to drive less than 55 m.p.h., you could use Central Expressway (U.S. Hwy. 75) which runs parallel with the Dallas North Tollway from the President George Bush Turnpike to downtown Dallas.

Heading south? If you don’t mind red lights and prefer more things to look at along the way, choose Hillcrest Road, Preston Road or Marsh Lane (which becomes Lemmon Avenue south of LBJ Freeway, IH-635). Once you get south of LBJ Freeway you can also jump onto Inwood Road or Midway Road to travel south. If driving north from downtown, you can take Midway Road or Inwood Road up to LBJ Freeway, but you’ll have to switch to Marsh Lane, Preston Road or Hillcrest Road to continuing going north.
