I’m from San Diego, so I’m a longtime fan of Pollo Loco, a California chain that offers of Latin-style rotisserie chicken. Living in Dallas, I’ve really felt Pollo Loco’s absence—that is, until I discovered Pollo Campero in our neighborhood off Northwest Highway.

My husband and I were able to eat dinner there for less than $20. We got eight pieces of chicken (we opted for the rotisserie in a lime-chile marinade, but they also have fried), black beans and rice, and corn tortillas. There was more food there than we could finish, and it was all delicious.

What I like most about this place is that you can order typical side dishes, like mashed potatoes and gravy—or you can go for the Latin items, like fried plantains or jicama fries. There’s also tres leches cake, and flan for dessert. And if you want it all to-go, there’s a drive through.
