Two Oak Lawn women were recently the victims of a violent home invasion. What’s worse, they couldn’t call 911 for help because their cell phones were taken during the burglary.

The crime has shed light on an emergency system shortcoming: If your cell phone is stolen and you don’t have a landline (as is increasingly common these days), you’re virtually helpless.

The Dallas Police Dept. has always been behind the modern technology curve. It was just within the past year or so that crime reports became available online, in fact. A police spokesperson told NBC 5 that the department is looking into some online options for reporting crimes.
