The parents and teachers at Withers Elementary are getting ready to create a school garden for the kids — complete with a fruit, vegetable and herb patch. They’ve spent the past year applying for the grant money to make it happen, and now, parent Kathy Shockley tells me they could use a little help from the community.

The school is organizing a Dec. 4 “dig in” where they’ll ask neighbors to volunteer so they can get the garden installed. Right now, the PTA is looking donated drinks and snacks to give those volunteers. And they need about five wheel barrels to borrow for the day of the “dig in.” If you’d like to volunteer, make a donation, or loan some gardening equipment you can email Kathy Shockley.
