DISD District 1 incumbent Edwin Flores was the clear winner in last night’s election, beating out his top contender Kyle Renard.

“There was no runoff in this election, that’s important,” Flores told me this morning. “The voters had a clear voice, and now we can move forward.”

Moving forward, he said, means focusing on raising the District 1 graduation rate—something that ranks near the top of his priority list.

“I’ve already been in contact with city leaders regarding this. My current thinking is something like the Dallas Achieves program.”

Flores, who had second thoughts about running for this term, said this will likely be his last round on the school board.

“I’m a pretty firm believer in term limits, and I haven’t fooled myself into thinking I have a monopoly on good ideas.”
